It uses lecturer-led instruction, repetitive learning practices, and traditional classrooms. Many schools and universities are moving away from this method and using an active learning approach. This modern approach focuses on engagement, collaboration, empowerment, and application of knowledge for the students.

The changes happen because of influences from technology, lifestyle, and new ways of learning today. Moreover, a passive approach is not effective because it doesn’t help remember things. People find this method boring and not useful to solve real life problems. Also, there are better alternatives available, like active recall, spaced repetition, and project-based learning. 

In addition to that, active learning boosts empowerment for learners. It plays a key role in improving motivation, engagement, and success in the future. This way, students can give control, confidence, and responsibility over their own learning process. What is the idea of empowerment?

The idea of empowerment in active learning is giving the learners the confidence to take charge of their study.   • Meaningfulness: This empowerment dimension considers the value of the task to students’ standards. If the work is not meaningful, they will have no motivation study. 
  • Competence: As students feel empowered, they feel capable of doing the right things to achieve goals. 
  • Impact: Completing a task is perceived to make a difference for students. The more impact they believe they have, the more motivation they should feel.
  • Choice: Empowerment allows students to have a choice in achieving goals. It predicts that good option leads to stronger motivation.
