Course Structure

This Professional Membership Coaching course is designed to be flexible, making it easier for busy professionals to study alongside their work. The course runs for 6 to 8 weeks, with sessions held every weekend. Since it is delivered online, participants can join from anywhere and follow along without interrupting their weekday schedule.

The training includes live coaching sessions, video lessons, downloadable materials, and interactive activities. Participants also receive personal feedback on their competency reports and help with interview preparation. Moreover, regular group sessions allow time for questions and shared learning with others. Support continues until the membership review is complete, helping participants feel confident and fully prepared.

Who can join this course

To join this Professional Membership Coaching course, the participant must have completed an engineering degree in civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, or other related fields and must be an AAPE or hold associate membership status.

If a degree is not available, an equivalent qualification may also be accepted as an alternative. These may include:

• Higher National Diploma (HND) in Engineering
• Level 5 or above diploma in Engineering or Construction Management
• International qualifications that are equal to an engineering degree
• Professional qualifications recognised by APE as meeting academic requirements

Completing your Course

Firstly you need to register on the APE website here as an Associate Member: https://www.apeng.org/associate-membership-aape/ 

Then you need to join one of our APE Professional Review (PR) Coaching sessions. You can follow the session either by watching the lecture live, or viewing the recorded lecture - the way you join is up to you.

The coaching session will instruct you on how to complete your assessment of competence which is your application to become a Chartered Member of the Association of Planning Engineers (APE). You will need to read the Guidance notes, available below, which gives you full instructions on the process.

Writing & Submitting your Report

Once you have completed your written competence report, you will need to submit your completed report via the Exam Portal, this should include the following documents:

• General Competence Report
• Specialist Competence Report
• An up to date CV
• Your plans for upcoming Continuing Professional Development (CPD) within the next 12 months
• A signed verification form by someone who is a Chartered Member of another recognised institution

You can download templates for these documents via the Exam Portal. 

Our Assessor will review your report and provide you feedback where necessary of any amendments you need to make. We will return your feedback, and once all your feedback has been incorporated, our assessor will sign off your submission.

Once your submission has been signed off, you will need to go to the APE Portal on their website and upload each section of your application, as well as pay a fee for your Chartered Membership..
