In your application, CIOB looks for clear, detailed, and personal examples of your work that demonstrate your understanding, decision-making, and ethics. Your submission is assessed by qualified reviewers, and if successful, you’ll be awarded MCIOB status.

Course Detail

The CIOB Professional Review Coaching course is a live online program designed to help candidates prepare for the Review. The course focuses on guiding participants through the requirements and expectations of the CIOB, helping them develop and submit a high-quality application that meets professional standards.

This course is ideal for construction professionals and existing CIOB members who are preparing to submit their Professional Review for Chartered Membership. It provides structured, live instruction and feedback, making it suitable for those who want direct guidance through the application process and prefer interactive learning.

By the end of the professional review coaching, participants will have a clear understanding of CIOB requirements and improved skills to write a strong, personal, and reflective application. All in all, they will gain confidence in submitting a compliant report, benefit from expert feedback, and increase their chances of a successful Chartership outcome.

Programme Plan

This course follows a clear structure designed to guide participants through every stage of the CIOB Professional Review process. Moreover, the course is delivered through live lectures held over one weekend, with 4 hours of sessions on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday. Please also note that sessions are not recorded, so attendance is mandatory. 

Understanding the CIOB Framework - This topic lays the foundation for a successful application by helping candidates understand what the CIOB expects.

Preparing Content for the Report - This section of CIOB Professional Review Coaching focuses on selecting and shaping the content that will be included in the Professional Review.

Writing and Structuring the Report - This part teaches how to present information clearly and effectively to meet CIOB standards.

• Structuring the Report

Avoiding Mistakes and Utilising Support - These topics of professional review coaching will guide candidates in refining their reports, avoiding errors, and leveraging CIOB resources.

Entry Requirements

To take part in the CIOB Professional Review Coaching programme, candidates must meet the following:

1. Be a current member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)
2. Be eligible for the CIOB Professional Review, which means you must have:
   1. A relevant bachelor’s degree (such as BSc in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, or a similar field) plus at least 3 years of relevant work experience
3. Be available to attend one weekend of live online lectures
4. Have a good level of written English

This is a live online course. You must attend the live lectures as they will not be recorded. You only need to attend one weekend of live lectures which include 4 hours on a Saturday and 4 hours on a Sunday.

Once you have attended the live lectures, you will then be given access to the Exam Portal where you will need to first download, then complete and submit your Application for Chartership document.

Following receipt of this, your assessor will review and assess it, and provide you with feedback. You will need to make the requested changes until you receive confirmation that it has been signed off.

Once signed off, we will then ask you to ensure you have paid the fees to the CIOB to ensure your membership is correct and you will receive your membership number from the CIOB to add to your forms.

You will need to submit the following documents to finalise your application:

• Final Signed Off Application for Chartership Form including your membership number and all rows completed for “Your 1 Year Forward: Personal Development Plan”
• Personal Information Form with membership number and signature of relevant person
• Organisation Chart showing your name and position clearly and the names and positions of those directly beneath and above you
• If you have been a member of the CIOB for over a year you will also need to upload a CPD Record covering the last 12 months

You must submit these documents via the Exam Portal which you will be given access to after you have attended the live lectures.

Once we have all completed and signed off documents, you will receive confirmation that your application will be submitted to the CIOB on the 1st of the next month.

You will receive your results 1 month after your application has been submitted to the CIOB directly from the CIOB themselves.
