How long is paternity leave?

Moreover, many companies also add extra days to support new dads.

Additionally, you can take this leave in one of two ways. First, you can take it as one or two weeks in a single block. Second, you can split it into two separate one-week blocks. However, the leave can not begin before your child is born (or placed with you in the case of adoption). It must also end within 52 weeks of the birth or due date if the baby arrives early. Moreover, you need to take this leave before starting any shared parental leave.

Since this leave can be split into two blocks, you might take one week right after your child is born and save the second week for when the mothers return to work. In this case, no matter how many children are born like twins, you can only take a maximum of two weeks of this leave. If your baby is stillborn after 24 weeks of pregnancy or is born alive but later passes away, you still have the right to take the leave.
