Water

This petal on the Living Building Challenge helps people to use and separate the waste in the built environment, particularly the world that is currently facing water issues. We are lacking clean water in many countries across the Earth. Through this method, it focuses on preserving water and using it as necessary as it can be. Also, you will need to manage water needs from rainwater collection to greywater recycling.

Energy

Energy produces so many harmful gases for our daily activities. Furthermore, this is one of the key causes of climate change. With the Living Building Challenge, you need to use less fossil fuels and change them into renewable ones, such as solar panels, wind, or Earth’s heat. Moreover, you have to save energy by using natural daylighting or any other system.

Health and happiness

One of the goals of the Living Building Challenge is to create healthy spaces for the occupants. Therefore, it makes sure you have productive indoor environments. This petal focuses on air quality, natural lighting, and access to outdoor spaces. You can gain it from Biophilic Design, a method to connect nature in the modern building environment.

Materials

Most of the materials for a building are harmful to the environment. For instance, the process of creating concrete produces bad gases such as CO2.
