Also, ensuring proper check-ups was given to the patient quickly.

The purpose of Section 4 Mental Health Act is to provide emergency detention for assessment only, not include the treatment. The only person who can apply this is an approved mental health professional (AMHP) or the patient’s nearest relative. When they want to do this, they only need one doctor’s approval. If they feel the detention is no longer necessary, a responsible expert in charge can discharge the patient.

When a person urgently needs to be taken to the hospital due to emotional problems, this act will be their guide for receiving proper treatment for the patient. They can use these rights if there is no time to obtain the usual two medical recommendations required for longer-term sections. The doctor must have examined the patient within the last 24 hours before completing the recommendation.

Prerequisites

There is no requirement to join the CPD – Section 4 of the Mental Health Act course. Everyone can learn how to make a decision in case of emergency detention with Section 4 Mental Health Act. However, this training is suitable for individuals who work as healthcare and social care professionals and those with people around them who need emotional help.

Why is mental health not taken seriously?

Frequently, people are not taking their emotional well-being seriously because of factors like shame, influence from others, or even wrong ideas about the treatment.
