Course Cover

The NQUAL Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care helps people build the skills and knowledge needed to work in aged care. Ofqual regulates this qualification, and Skills for Care supports it. This diploma teaches how to work well in home health care, supporting others, leading a team, and staying safe at work.

The course explores a wide range of topics, such as communication, health and safety, professional practice, and working in partnerships. Additionally, optional units allow learners to focus on specialised areas. This includes end-of-life care, advocacy, digital skills, leadership, and mental health awareness. Because of this, the course is ideal for individuals aiming for roles such as caregivers, lead adult care workers, senior support workers, or key workers in homes for the aged.

This diploma can lead to jobs in the aged care sector or help learners move on to further training. Many use it as a step toward the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Adult Care Services. It prepares learners to take on more responsibility, support others effectively, and make a positive difference in professional settings.

Class Outline

This course requires 700 hours for learners to achieve and demonstrate the knowledge and skills learned from this programme. Within the 700 hours, 560 hours of it are guided learning. Meaning to say, in these hours, learners are guided by experienced lecturers. Furthermore, to pass this qualification, learners must complete 37 credits from required units and at least 33 credits from optional ones, totalling 70 credits. Develop, Maintain, and Use Records and Reports (J/650/7850) – 3 credits - Learn how to write and store records properly so that others can understand them. Find out how to protect people’s private information while keeping records useful.
Personal Development in Adult Social Care Settings (K/650/7851) – 4 credits - Understand your role and how to improve by learning from feedback. Make a plan to grow your skills and provide better care.
Lead Inclusive Practice in Adult Care Settings (L/650/7852) – 3 credits - Learn how to treat everyone fairly and respect their beliefs and needs. Know how to challenge unfair treatment and support others to do the same.
Lead Health and Safety in Adult Care Settings (M/650/7853) – 3 credits - Understand how to keep yourself and others safe at work, including handling food, fire safety, and infection control. Learn how to spot risks and help others stay safe, too.
Facilitate Person-Centred Assessments to Support Well-Being (R/650/7854) – 2 credits - Help people explain their needs and goals during assessments. Use this information to support their well-being in all areas of life.
Facilitate Support Planning to Ensure Positive Outcomes for Individuals and to Support Well-Being (T/650/7855) – 3 credits - Work with people to create support plans that match their wishes and needs. Make sure plans are reviewed, safe, and improve their lives.
Professional Practice in Adult Care Settings (Y/650/7856) – 3 credits - Learn how elderly support is guided by laws, values, and people’s rights. Know how to balance what a person wants with keeping them safe.
Working in Partnership with Others (A/650/7857) – 4 credits - Understand how to work well with other staff, professionals, and families. Learn how to deal with conflicts and build strong working relationships.
Understand Personalisation in Care and Support Services (D/650/7858) – 4 credits - Learn how to give people more control over their care. Understand personal budgets, direct payments, and how to support people’s choices.
Understand Safeguarding and Protection in Adult Care Settings (F/650/7859) – 2 credits - Know how to spot abuse and what to do if someone might be at risk. Learn how to work with others to keep people safe.

Safeguarding Children and Young People who are Present in the Adult Care Sector (K/650/7860) – 2 credits - Understand how to keep children safe when they visit or live in elder professional settings. Learn how to spot signs of harm and what actions to take.
Lead End of Life Services (L/650/7861) – 4 credits - Understand how to give respectful assistance to people who are nearing the end of life. Take the lead in planning, supporting families, and following their wishes.
Independent Advocacy (T/650/7864) – 4 credits - Discover how to speak up for people who need help making decisions. Support their rights, give fair advice, and help them feel confident and heard.
Coaching and Mentoring in Social Care (D/650/7867) – 3 credits - Find out how to guide people in getting safe housing that suits their needs. Work with others to offer the right support and advice.
Manage Inductions in Adult Care (H/650/7869) – 5 credits - Get the skills to welcome and train new staff in care roles. Create helpful plans and support their learning from the start.

Requirements to Apply

This qualification is for anyone aged 18 or over who wants to grow their skills in adult care. Applicants should also have, or be working towards, a Level 2 in English and maths or an equivalent qualification.
